كل شركة في بدايتها بيكون تكلفة الاقتراض الخاصة بيها مرتفعة جدا لارتفاع خطورة وضع الشركة مع عدم انتظام تدفقاتها النقدية فبالطبع المقرضين بيزودوا عليها تكلفة الاقتراض لذلك بتتجه للتمويل عن طريق الequity
لكن مع نضوج الشركة وثبات وارتفاع التدفقات النقدية لها بيبدأ الcost of debt الخاص بيها ينخفض وبتتمكن من الحصول على debts بتكلفة معقولة وبتكون بالتأكيد اقل من تكلفة الequity
لكن التوسع في الاقتراض ممكن يتسبب مرة اخرى في ارتفاع the cost of debt اكتر من تكلفة الequity لان اي مقرض هيجد اقتراض الشركة عالي وكذلك الinterest expenses فيها كثير اكيد هيحس بrisk فبالتالي هيرجع الcost of debt فيها يرتفع
