The inner layer of smart glass, smart film, consists of several layers of advanced materials that are placed next to each other with high technology, each of which plays a role. The first layers of this smart film are made of PET polymer sheets, which are covered with a very thin layer of a transparent material that conducts electricity. نحوه ی عملکرد این نوع شیشه به این گونه است. که در حالت عادی شیشه مات به نظر می رسد زیرا ولتاژی به ان اعمال نمی شود و حال زمانی که انرژی ای در حدود تا وات به دو طرف شیشه ی دو جداره اعمال می شود ، ذرات کریستال منظم گردیده و نور را از خود عبور می دهند انگاه شیشه شفاف به نظر می رسد.
