گوگرد به صورت آزاد و به صورت ترکیبی، موارد مصرف زیادی دارد ولی بیشترین کاربرد آن برای تهیه ترکیبات شیمیایی و فرآورده های میانی در چرخه صنعت می‌باشد. بیشترین مصرف گوگرد در سال‌های اخیر در صنایع کشاورزی و تهیه کودهای فسفاته بوده که برای پائین آوردن PH خاک کشاورزی و تولید اسید سولفوریک، کبریت سازی، سمپاشی قارچ‌ها، سپیدک‌ها و حشره کش‌ها معمولاً به صورت مستقیم مصرف می‌شود.

Also, addition of sulfur to the soil for a long time can cause calcium sulfate formation that will cause problems such as increase in soil salinity.
